Deco Palm does neither. The fronds have been straightened, squared and set into a repeating geometric frame, so what reads first is structure and only afterwards foliage. The reference is Miami, where the deep porches and stepped facades of the Florida coast have always been seen with the planting in front of them.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe drawing is flat and deliberate. Each frond is built from tapered segments that fan outward at a fixed angle, and because those segments repeat at the same interval the eye takes a rhythm from the wall rather than a plant. At a 64 cm repeat on a 0.52 m roll the motif is generous without becoming mural-scale, and the half-drop match staggers each length against the last, so the leaves interlock diagonally and the seams disappear into the pattern instead of stacking against it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis is a paper that likes hard edges around it: a lacquered hall, a cloakroom with a stone basin, a bedroom where the joinery is plain and painted. It works particularly well above a dado or behind a headboard, where the geometry can be read as a panel.
