Stripped of the carving and the applied ornament, what remains is a clean interlocking star lattice with nothing else in it, and the paper reads as a contemporary geometric rather than as a Tudor revival. The drawing is simple and confident, and it holds its shape at any distance.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe arithmetic is neat: a 0.52 m roll with a 52 cm straight repeat, so each drop carries exactly one width of the pattern and setting out around a door, a window or a chimney breast is straightforward. It works in the rooms where geometry helps, such as a hall with several doors, a stair, a study or a cloakroom, and it is one of the few historic-source designs that sits happily in a plain modern room.
