The pile is deep and lies with a soft sheen rather than a hard shine, so it moves between light and shadow as you look across it, and the colour reads richer in the folds than on the flat. It is a plain, but a plain with real depth; the sort of velvet that makes a simple sofa look considered.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe composition is 89 per cent cotton and 11 per cent polyester, at 435 grams per square metre on a 140 centimetre width, with no repeat. The Martindale figure is 150,000 rubs, which is exceptional for a cotton velvet and places it well beyond the contract threshold, so it can go on hotel seating as readily as a bedroom chair. Lizzo lists it for upholstery, curtains and decorative work. There are thirty-two numbered colourways, and the range runs from deep wine reds and night blues through mustards and dusty greens to snow whites; sample two or three numbers together, as velvet shifts a great deal with the light.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe use Eternal on the pieces that get sat on every day: the main sofa, a pair of club chairs, a fully upholstered bed. It also makes a heavy, formal curtain when lined and interlined, and a pair of velvet cushions in a darker number is the easiest way to warm up a linen sofa. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVelvet has a nap, and the shade changes depending on which way the pile runs, so cut every piece in the same direction and tell your upholsterer whether you want the pile brushing down, the usual and more forgiving choice.
