The wool brings a soft nap and a depth of colour, and the linen keeps it flat, dry and structurally honest. Of all the trims in the range this is the one with the most presence, because it is wide enough to read as a band of colour rather than as a line, and that changes what you can do with it. It sits flat and holds a pressed crease well.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe composition is 51% linen, 40% wool and 9% polyester, sold by the half metre. Seven colourways are offered: Jasper White, Plaster, Natural, Boulder, Moccasin, Chestnut and Ottanio. The first five work through neutrals from clean white to warm mid-brown, Chestnut is the deep warm one, and Ottanio is a teal and the only real colour in the set. Because of the nap, each reads a shade deeper under lamplight than it does in daylight.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWe use Bordure as a contrast border on plain curtains, set in from the leading edge and returned across the bottom, and as a wide band on the face of a Roman blind. It also suits the front edge of a fabric-covered ottoman or the border of a large floor cushion. Ottanio on a natural linen is the combination we come back to most. At this width any adhesive shadow is visible from across the room, and the wool nap will wick it. Hand-sew along both edges with a thread matched to the braid. Mitre the corners properly, because a wide border folded at a corner builds bulk that no amount of pressing will flatten. If you are running it around a curved hem, cut and mitre rather than easing.
