Run along a curtain or a cushion it gives a defined line with a shadow on either side of it, which reads far better than a printed or flat band would. The linen is piece-dyed, so the colour sits a little unevenly in the yarn and keeps the tape from looking manufactured.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe composition is 100 per cent linen and it is supplied by the half metre. Seven colourways run from Jasper White and Ecru at the pale end, through Silverbirch and Cement in the greys, to Moccasin and Chestnut in the warm browns, with Indigo as the single strong colour. There is no pattern repeat along the length, so you buy the running metrage plus an allowance. The woven edges give the tape a little body, which helps it lie straight when it is applied.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWe use Orner on the leading and lower edges of curtains, and as a border set in from the edge of a plain Roman blind to give the flat face something to hold. On upholstery it suits the skirt line of a loose cover or the front edge of a box cushion. Indigo on an oatmeal linen is a clean, simple pairing, and Cement on Cement is nearly invisible and very good. At a corner, mitre it properly: fold back at 45 degrees, press, and stitch through the fold so both edges continue cleanly round.
