Atticus is a large-scale botanical print from Baker Lifestyle's Homes & Gardens II book, drawn at a scale that needs height and width to make sense of it: the repeat runs 45 centimetres down and 69 across, close to three-quarters of a metre. The linen content gives the ground some texture for the print to sit into, rather than lying on a flat printed surface.

The composition is 63 per cent linen, 28 per cent cotton and a small nylon content, printed 137 centimetres wide, with a 45 centimetre vertical and 69 centimetre horizontal repeat. Baker Lifestyle test it to 50,000 rubs on the Martindale, a strong figure for a printed cloth of this weight, and it is rated for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. One colourway, Sienna/Fuchsia, a warm terracotta paired with a bright pink that reads bolder than most of the book.

This is a curtain fabric first: the scale of the repeat wants a full-length drop to read properly, ideally on a generous window where the motif has room to turn. With 50,000 rubs behind it, it will also take a sofa or an armchair in a room built around it, and it makes a confident headboard. Pair it with a plain linen picking out either the sienna or the fuchsia. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow a full extra repeat per drop given the scale, roughly 45 centimetres added to each curtain length, and plan seams so a complete motif falls at the leading edge. Because it is a machine-washable cloth on a cool cycle, made-up cushion covers can go in the wash, though we would still dry clean anything lined or interlined. Do not tumble dry, bleach or iron hot.
