Audley is a linen-rich woven from Baker Lifestyle's Homes & Garden book, patterned rather than plain, with a self-toned repeat that shows more as texture than as a motif you read from across the room. The linen content gives it a dry, slightly open hand, and the weave has enough weight to hold a fold without going stiff. It sits between the book's plains and its prints, which is a useful place to be.

The composition is 65 per cent linen and 35 per cent polyester, 130 centimetres wide, with a 33 centimetre vertical and 32 centimetre horizontal repeat, close enough to square to keep the setting-out simple. No Martindale figure is published for this design, which is usual for the dress-weight wovens in this book rather than the hard-wearing ones. It comes in a single colourway, Linen/Ivory, a soft off-white that reads as a warm neutral rather than a stark white.

We reach for Audley where a scheme needs texture without introducing a new colour: curtains in a room dressed mostly in whites and naturals, a slipcover for an occasional chair, or a bedspread that wants some substance without pattern. It works well layered with one of the Homes & Garden prints in the same tonal family. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow one extra repeat per drop to keep the self-pattern level across a pair of curtains, and roughly ten per cent over on upholstery cuts.
