Bridport is the design the collection is named after, and it is the largest of the printed cottons in the book after Ellingham: a near-square repeat of 70 centimetres down and 69.5 across, which means it steps twice across the width and comes round once every two-thirds of a metre or so. It is printed on plain 100 per cent cotton with a matt, dry surface and no applied finish, so the colour reads flat and the cloth takes a crisp fold.

It is 100 per cent cotton, 139 centimetres wide, repeating 70 centimetres vertically and 69.5 centimetres horizontally, and tested to 20,000 Martindale rubs. Baker Lifestyle rate it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Three colourways: Blue/Red, Aqua and Green. Blue/Red has the most going on and is the one we would build a room around, while Aqua and Green are single-colour readings that work better as a supporting print.

This is a curtain and bedspread cloth. The repeat is too large for cushions and too large for a dining chair seat, but on a full-length pair of curtains it comes round three or four times in the drop and looks deliberate. It also works well on a headboard. Pair it with Sherborne Gingham or Purbeck Stripe in the same colour family. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow a full 70 centimetre repeat per drop, and set the design so a complete repeat finishes at the hem rather than being cut off mid-drawing. That decision is made at the cutting table and cannot be undone afterwards. With a near-square repeat, half-widths joined at the outside edges will match cleanly. Plain cotton of this weight benefits from interlining on anything over two metres.
