Cadogan is a textured upholstery weave from Baker Lifestyle's Carnival Velvets book, grouped with its companion Melbury in the same sample notebook. It has a close, structured surface with real body, heavier and firmer than the book's curtain-weight cloths, and no repeat to plan around. Despite sitting in the Velvets book by name, Cadogan itself is not a pile fabric: it is a flatter, more structural weave, exactly the kind of companion cloth a collection needs alongside its plusher velvets.

The composition is 88 per cent polyester and 12 per cent viscose, woven 140 centimetres wide, with no pattern repeat. No Martindale figure is published for this design, and Baker Lifestyle rate it for fixed upholstery only, not curtains. Three colourways: Ivory, a pale neutral; Chocolate, a deep warm brown; and Shingle, a soft beige between the two.

Because it is rated for fixed upholstery alone, we keep Cadogan to the pieces that stay put: a sofa, an upholstered headboard, or a pair of dining chairs, rather than anything that needs to drape or fold. Chocolate is the one we reach for most, since it reads as a genuine neutral against almost any scheme. Because it is not rated for curtains, we would not specify it for anything that needs to fold or hang; keep it strictly to upholstered pieces and it will perform well. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With no repeat there is nothing to match, so order your measured quantity plus a working margin for wastage and pattern-free cutting. This is one of the washable cloths in the range, suitable for a cool machine cycle, though we would recommend dry cleaning anything upholstered and finished. With three colourways covering pale, mid and dark, Cadogan gives you a workable neutral trio to specify a whole seating group from a single design. Do not tumble dry, bleach or iron hot.
