Baker Lifestyle | Denbury

Denbury is the hero print of Baker Lifestyle's Denbury collection, the design the book and its coordinating velvets are named after. It is woven rather than printed, a jacquard floral with real structure to the motif, so the pattern has depth and catches the light differently to a flat printed cloth. The scale of the motif is generous, closer to a documentary print than a small repeating sprig.

The composition is 55 per cent viscose, 25 per cent linen and 20 per cent cotton, woven 128 centimetres wide, with a 38 centimetre vertical and 64 centimetre horizontal repeat. No Martindale figure is published for this design, and Baker Lifestyle rate it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. One colourway, Linen, a soft neutral that lets the woven structure of the motif do the work rather than strong colour.

As the collection's lead design, we use Denbury for curtains in the room the whole scheme is built around, paired with Woolston or Ashwell in a toning velvet for upholstery. It also makes a considered bedspread. A pair of upholstered dining chairs in Denbury also works well when the rest of the table setting stays plain. Because the colourway is a quiet neutral, it works in both traditional and more pared-back contemporary rooms. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow a full extra repeat per drop given the scale, and plan seams so a complete motif falls at the leading edge of a pair of curtains. Because it is woven rather than printed, the pattern will not fade or wash out unevenly the way a print can, though we would still keep it out of strong, direct sun. Dry clean only.
