Folly is a textured woven with no stated repeat, so it functions as a coloured plain with a lively surface. The yarn is slubbed and irregular, which breaks the colour up and stops it going flat across a large piece. It is the one Block Weaves design that also appears in the Block Party book, and that tells you what it is for: it was made to sit under those prints rather than compete with them.
It is 55 per cent viscose, 20 per cent linen, 16 per cent cotton and 9 per cent polyester, woven 140 centimetres wide with no pattern repeat. The Martindale figure is 20,000 rubs, which puts it in curtain and light-upholstery use rather than heavy daily seating. Baker Lifestyle rate it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. One colourway, Spice, a warm rust that reads as terracotta in daylight and deeper by lamplight.
We use Folly for curtains where the colour needs to come from the window, for a pair of cushions that pick up a warm tone in a print, and for a bed valance or a tailored ottoman. It is the sort of cloth that makes a neutral room feel finished. Put it with the Block Party prints in the same warm family, or against a cool grey to sharpen it. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
No repeat means no matching, so order your measured quantity plus ten per cent. On a slubbed viscose blend, keep every piece running the same way on any one item, because the slub catches light directionally and a reversed panel will show. At 20,000 rubs this is not a sofa cloth: if a client wants it on seating, use it for the back and outside arms and take the harder-wearing Orchard for the seat.
