Latika is a printed linen from Baker Lifestyle's Echo Design collection, drawn in the Indienne manner: a block-print-inspired floral in the tradition of historic Indian chintz, rather than a modern all-over repeat. The pure linen ground gives it a dry, textured hand, and the print sits into that texture rather than lying flat on top of it, giving each motif a slightly soft, irregular edge.

It is 100 per cent linen, printed 138.73 centimetres wide, with a 45.82 centimetre vertical and 34.36 centimetre horizontal repeat. Baker Lifestyle test it to 15,000 double rubs on the Wyzenbeek cotton duck test, a different scale to the Martindale figures used elsewhere in our range but still a useful mark of general durability, and it is rated for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Three colourways: Indigo/Cashew, Stone/Oatmeal and Aqua/Taupe, each a considered two-tone pairing rather than a single flat colour.

We use Latika for curtains where the room wants a historic, hand-crafted feel, and on a bedspread or a pair of cushions where the Indienne drawing can be appreciated at close range. Stone/Oatmeal is the quietest of the three and works as a near-neutral; Indigo/Cashew and Aqua/Taupe both carry more colour. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow a full extra repeat per drop given the scale, close to half a metre added to each curtain length, and plan seams so a complete motif falls at the leading edge of a pair. Pure linen relaxes a little after hanging, so ask your maker to hold full-length curtains for a few days before setting the final hem. Dry clean only.
