Lulworth is the mid-scale print in Bridport, a near-square repeat of 35 centimetres down and 34.5 across, which is exactly a quarter of the cloth width. That makes it one of the most straightforward designs here to plan and to cut. It reads as a proper pattern rather than a texture, but it is small enough to use on furniture without losing the drawing. The ground is plain cotton, matt and dry to the hand.
The cloth is 100 per cent cotton, 138 centimetres wide, repeating 35 centimetres vertically and 34.5 centimetres horizontally, and tested to 20,000 rubs on the Martindale. Baker Lifestyle rate it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Three colourways: Blue/Red, Aqua and Green/Pink. Blue/Red carries the collection's indigo-and-red theme, Aqua is the chalky cool option, and Green/Pink is the softest of the three.
We use Lulworth as the main print in a bedroom, with curtains, a bedspread and a headboard all from the same cloth, or as the second pattern in a sitting room on a pair of occasional chairs. At this scale it takes a cushion well, which the larger Bridport prints do not. Pair it with a plain linen and one of the collection's woven checks. The horizontal repeat divides the width into four, so blinds and cushions centre without argument. Ask your maker to set out from the middle of the cloth each time. Allow one 35 centimetre repeat per drop plus ten per cent. With 20,000 rubs behind it, keep it to occasional seating and soft furnishings rather than a sofa that takes daily use.
