Marida is a large-scale printed cotton and linen from Baker Lifestyle's Homes & Gardens III book, drawn with a tall repeat that runs 61 centimetres down against 35 across, so the design has a clear vertical direction and wants height to read properly. The linen content gives the ground some texture under the print, closer to a mural than a repeating motif.
It is 90 per cent cotton and 10 per cent linen, printed 140 centimetres wide, with a 61 centimetre vertical and 35 centimetre horizontal repeat. Baker Lifestyle test it to 40,000 rubs on the Martindale, comfortably into upholstery territory, and it is rated for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. One colourway, Indigo, a deep, ink-toned blue that behaves as a strong neutral rather than a bright accent.
The scale and the deep colour make Marida a curtain fabric first, particularly on a tall window where the vertical repeat can run its full course. At 40,000 rubs it will also take an armchair or a window seat in daily use, and it makes a striking headboard against a pale wall. Pair it with a plain ivory or oatmeal linen to let the indigo carry the room. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Allow a full extra repeat per drop given the scale, close to two-thirds of a metre added to each curtain length, and plan the seams so a complete motif falls at the leading edge of a pair. On upholstery, ask your maker to keep the vertical running the same way on every face of the piece, or the direction will read wrong from across the room. Dry clean only.
