Purbeck Stripe is the woven stripe that runs alongside Purbeck Check in the Bridport book. There is no vertical repeat, because the stripe runs continuously down the cloth, and the horizontal repeat is 21.6 centimetres, so the stripe group comes round six times across the width. Being woven rather than printed, the stripe has a slight relief to it and the colour is solid through the cloth. The hand is crisp, dry cotton.
The cloth is 100 per cent cotton, 130 centimetres wide, with a 21.6 centimetre horizontal repeat and no vertical repeat to allow for. No Martindale figure is published. Baker Lifestyle rate it for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Four colourways: Aqua, Pink/Green, Red/Blue and Green. Red/Blue is the strongest and sits with the collection's indigo prints, while Aqua and Green are the quieter, more usable options across a whole room.
A woven stripe of this weight is one of the most useful things in a scheme. We use it for curtains on a hallway or landing window, for a Roman blind in a kitchen, for cushions, for a bed valance, and for lining the inside of a pelmet. It goes with every printed cotton in the Bridport book and with plain linen. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
With no vertical repeat you only need to plan the horizontal placement, so waste is low: allow ten per cent over your measured quantity. Centre a full stripe group on each blind and match the stripes across every seam, because a stripe that steps at a join is the most visible fault in curtain making. If you railroad it on a long sofa back the stripes will run horizontally, so decide the direction before cutting.
