Rozel is a printed cotton and linen from Baker Lifestyle's Carnival book, drawn on a near-square repeat with enough ground showing that it reads as an easy, all-over pattern rather than a bold single motif. The linen content gives the print some texture to sit into rather than a flat surface. The motif is a loose, sketched floral trail rather than a formal botanical print, which is typical of the way Carnival treats its patterns.

The composition is 90 per cent cotton and 10 per cent linen, printed 138 centimetres wide, with a 34 centimetre vertical and 34.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. Baker Lifestyle test it to 25,000 rubs on the Martindale, and it is rated for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Two colourways: Stone, a soft neutral, and Spice, a warm terracotta that carries more colour into a room.

We use Rozel for curtains where the room wants pattern without too much contrast, and Spice works particularly well on cushions or a chair that needs to pick up a warm accent from elsewhere in the scheme. It also makes a good Roman blind in a kitchen or garden room, where the pattern reads clearly at a distance and the linen keeps it from looking too crisp. Pair it with a plain cream linen or, for more contrast, a deep green check. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow one extra repeat per drop to keep the pattern matching across a pair of curtains; because the repeat is close to square, this also makes blinds and cushions straightforward to centre. Line curtains in a plain cotton sateen to keep the drape soft rather than stiff. At 25,000 rubs, keep it to general domestic upholstery rather than the heaviest daily-use seating. Dry clean only.
