Salsa Diamond is a printed geometric from Baker Lifestyle's Carnival book, built on a diamond lattice rather than a floral or a stripe, which gives it a more graphic, contemporary feel than most of the collection around it. The linen content in the ground gives the print a little texture rather than a flat surface. The lattice sits on the diagonal rather than square to the selvedge, which is part of what gives it energy.

The composition is 90 per cent cotton and 10 per cent linen, printed 137 centimetres wide, with a 20 centimetre vertical and 17 centimetre horizontal repeat. Baker Lifestyle test it to 25,000 rubs on the Martindale, and it is rated for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Two colourways: Stone, a soft neutral version of the lattice, and Indigo, a deeper blue that reads more graphic.

We use Salsa Diamond where a room wants pattern with a geometric edge rather than a floral one: curtains in a study or a hallway, a pair of dining chairs in Indigo, or cushions in Stone against a plain sofa. It also reads well as a simple Roman blind. It sits well next to a plain linen and one of the Carnival velvets in a toning colour. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow one extra repeat per drop to keep the lattice matching across a pair of curtains, and centre the diamond on the width for blinds and cushions, since an off-centre point is the first thing the eye finds on a geometric repeat. At 25,000 rubs, use it for general domestic upholstery rather than the heaviest daily-use seating. Dry clean only.
