Cailloux is a quiet cloth from Brunschwig & Fils, and in Ivory it works as a pale, warm neutral. It is the kind of fabric we reach for when a room already has plenty going on and needs a calm surface to settle it, or when the architecture and the light are doing most of the work. A cloth like this does not announce itself. It asks to be used generously, in volume, where its softness and its light colour can make a space feel open and unforced.
The composition is 52% cotton and 48% viscose, and the width is 134.91 cm. The cotton gives the cloth some body and a familiar, natural hand, while the viscose adds a gentle softness and a slight glow that catches the light, particularly when the cloth is gathered or folded. It belongs to the Maisonnette collection and is offered here in a single colourway, Ivory. We do not have a stated repeat for this cloth, so please speak to us about quantities before you order.
We would use Cailloux where the cloth can be seen in quantity, such as full, generous curtains in a bedroom or a sitting room, or a simple upholstered headboard. It would also suit a loose cover or cushions, set against darker or more patterned pieces. For a pairing, we would put it beside a warm stone or oatmeal wall colour, with natural linen and a little aged wood. Ivory is also a good partner for a strong print used elsewhere in the room, giving the eye somewhere to rest.
Pale cloths show light and shadow, so line and interline any curtains to prevent show-through and to give the fall more weight. A light-coloured cloth also shows dirt more readily, so ask your workroom about suitable care and cleaning before making up, and consider a protective finish on any seating. Always order enough cloth from a single batch for the whole job, and request a cutting before you commit so you can check the shade against your walls, floors and woodwork in your own light.
