Casamance | Andati

Andati is a stripe with a frayed edge, drawn so that each band looks torn rather than ruled, and printed over a ground that imitates woven raffia. On vinyl with a non-woven backing, the raffia texture is pronounced enough to catch side light, and it is that combination of a soft stripe and a coarse ground that stops it feeling formal. The stripe runs vertically and is broad enough to read from across a room.

Vinyl on a non-woven backing at 440 grams per square metre, one of the heavier papers in the collection, 70 centimetres wide on a 10.05 metre roll, free match with no vertical repeat. Fire rated B-s2,d0 and ASTM E84 Class A, with an A+ COV rating, and made in Italy. Four colourways: Opaline, Sable, Anthracite and Terre De Sienne; the first two are gentle enough for a bedroom, while Anthracite and Terre De Sienne belong in a dining room or a study.

We use Andati where a stripe is wanted but a crisp one would be too smart: a coastal bedroom, a hallway, the wall behind a bed with the raffia texture repeated in a headboard or a rug. It pairs well with the Opio stripe, which sits on the same ground, and with plain linens at the window. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

It hangs as a paste-the-wall non-woven and dry strips later. Being a free match, drops are cut to the wall height plus trim with no alignment, so waste is minimal; do keep the drops in roll order so the stripe spacing stays even across the wall. A 70 centimetre by 10.05 metre roll covers about 7 square metres; a typical 3.5 by 2.6 metre wall takes 5 drops, so allow 2 rolls.
