Casamance | Ascension

Ascension is a flame-retardant polyester jacquard from the Cher Ami collection with a silky face and subtle combinations of colour woven together, so the surface shifts as the light moves across it. There is no repeat to speak of; it behaves as a textured plain rather than a pattern, which makes it the most versatile of the three jacquards in the group. It is woven in Italy and has a good, substantial weight in the hand.

It is 100 per cent inherently flame-retardant polyester, 138 centimetres wide and 690 grams per square metre, with a free match. Five colourways: Beige, the quiet neutral; Céladon, a soft grey-green; Ambre, a warm amber; Marine, a deep blue; and Noir. The palette is shared with Cher Ami and Gandin, so all three can be used together in one scheme without the colours arguing. Beige and Céladon are the ones we would put on a large sofa; Marine and Noir suit a single chair or a banquette.

We use Ascension on sofas and armchairs in living rooms, on dining chair seats, on the base and headboard of a bed, and on banquette seating in a kitchen or a restaurant. Its flame-retardant fibre makes it a straightforward choice for hotels, rental properties and public rooms; ask us for the current abrasion and fire test data if you are specifying for contract. Pair it with Rivalet velvet or a linen plain. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With no repeat, cut plain widths with no allowance, but do keep the direction of the weave consistent across every panel, as the colour effect can look different when a panel is turned. Ask your upholsterer to overlock cut edges on loose covers and cushions, and to use a firm foam seat so the smooth face stays taut.
