Baudelaire is a wide-width voile woven largely from recycled fibres, in which glossy and matt yarns alternate to give a soft, shifting texture. The warp is acrylic and polyester; the weft mixes acrylic, cotton and polyester yarns of different characters, so some threads catch the light and some absorb it. Held up to a window it reads as a fine, slightly irregular grain, and in a room it gives the light a warmth that a plain white net never does.
The composition is 32 per cent acrylic, 28 per cent recycled polyester, 28 per cent polyester, a further 5 per cent recycled polyester, 4 per cent recycled cotton and 3 per cent cotton, woven in Turkey at 270 grams per square metre. It is 310 centimetres wide and made to be railroaded, with the width used as the drop, and it is a free match. Four colourways: Écru and Sable are the natural, neutral sheers; Doré is a pale gold that warms a north-facing room; Mordoré is a deeper bronze that is unexpectedly good behind dark curtains.
We use Baudelaire as the sheer layer behind a heavier curtain in a living room, on its own across bedroom windows in a house where privacy is not a concern, and as a single panel on a tall stair window. The gold tones work particularly well with the warm palette of the Cher Ami and Les Tisserands collections launched alongside it. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
Order by track length: measure the finished track, allow 2 to 2.2 times fullness and add side hems. The 310 centimetre width gives a usable drop of around 295 centimetres. It needs no lining; a light chain weight in the hem and a wave heading make the most of the drape. Let it hang for a few days before the hem is finally set.
