Escalet is a plain with a small woven chevron running through it, the same ground as the Scaletta stripe without the rope line. On vinyl with a non-woven backing, the chevron is fine enough that from across a room the wall reads as a textured plain, and only close to does the herringbone show. It is a quiet paper with more life in it than a flat colour, and it does not date.
Vinyl on a non-woven backing at 330 grams per square metre, 70 centimetres wide on a 10.05 metre roll, free match with no vertical repeat. Fire rated B-s2,d0 and ASTM E84 Class A, with an A+ COV rating, and made in Italy. Five colourways: Grège, Latte, Paille, Noisette and Bleu Ciel; Grège and Latte are the ones we use through a whole house, Paille warms a north-facing room, Noisette suits a study, and Bleu Ciel a child's bedroom or a bathroom.
We use Escalet as an all-over paper in bedrooms, landings and corridors, and as the companion to Scaletta so a stripe can be kept to one wall. It sits well with painted tongue-and-groove, a herringbone floor and plain cotton at the window. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hang it as a paste-the-wall non-woven; it dry strips later. Free match, so drops are cut to the wall height plus trim and waste is minimal; hang the drops the same way up and in roll order so the chevron direction stays consistent at the seams. A 70 centimetre by 10.05 metre roll covers about 7 square metres; a typical 3.5 by 2.6 metre wall takes 5 drops, so allow 2 rolls.
