Casamance | Fibrosa Wallpaper

Fibrosa is a paper and jute weave from Casamance's Tramis collection, and the textured plain with the most body. The weave is dense and very regular, the jute giving a coarser, more fibrous strand than paper alone, so it reads as a heavy natural raffia while keeping an even, tailored surface. It absorbs light rather than reflecting it, and makes a large room feel more enclosed.

The composition is 80 per cent paper and 20 per cent jute on a non-woven backing, 480 grams per square metre, at a 91 centimetre usable width. Made in South Korea, it carries an A+ indoor air quality rating, a European fire rating of D-s1, d0 and Class A to ASTM E84. There are 10 colourways: Sienne Brulée, Noisette, Céladon, Ambre, Opaline, Praline, Ébène, Beige, Aubergine and Crème. Crème, Opaline and Beige are the light naturals; Noisette and Praline are warmer; Ébène and Aubergine suit a study or an evening dining room.

We tend to use Fibrosa on all four walls of a study, a snug or a dining room, where the weight of the texture does the work of panelling, and in a hallway where it takes knocks better than a lighter paper. It pairs with dark stained oak, leather and a heavy wool curtain; the paler colourways also suit a bedroom. Sold by the metre; order a sample before committing to a full room.

We recommend a professional hanger for this weave. Fibrosa is paste-the-wall and dry-strippable with no pattern to match, but the weight calls for a good adhesive and a sealed wall, and the joins will show as fine lines. Divide the wall width by 0.91 for the number of drops, round up, and multiply by the wall height plus 10 centimetres: a 4 metre wall at 2.4 metres high takes 5 drops, roughly 13 metres. Paper and jute vary in shade between batches, so order the whole room from one batch.
