Casamance | Guimard

Guimard is a suede-effect wallcovering with a metallic plant design pressed into its surface, from Casamance's Odéon collection. The ground is a short polyester suede on a non-woven backing; an engraved cylinder embosses a metallic film onto it, so the scrolling stems and leaves sit slightly proud of the pile and catch the light while the ground stays matt. The reference is Hector Guimard's Paris Métro ironwork, with the same loose, curling movement at a scale that reads as pattern across a wall.

It is 100 per cent polyester, 300 grams per square metre, at a 135 centimetre usable width, which reduces joins on a wide wall. Made in France, it carries an A+ indoor air quality rating, a European fire rating of B s1 d0 and Class A to ASTM E84. There are 4 colourways: Anthracite Doré, Grenat Doré, Sable Foncé Doré and Galet Doré. All four carry a gold metallic; Galet Doré is the softest and easiest to live with, Grenat Doré the most theatrical.

We would use Guimard on a single wall behind a bed, with the other walls in a plain suede such as Tannage, or across the back of a dining room where the metallic can work under candlelight. It also suits a small cloakroom, where a full wrap of pattern feels intentional. Keep the joinery and furniture simple and dark, and let the wall carry the room. Sold by the metre; order a sample before committing to a full room.

A professional hanger is the right call here. Guimard is paste-the-wall and dry-strippable, and the embossed design needs aligning across joins, so allow extra for matching. Divide the wall width by 1.35 for the number of drops, round up, and multiply by the wall height plus 10 centimetres: a 4 metre wall at 2.4 metres high takes 3 drops, about 8 metres before matching allowance. Order the whole room from one batch so the pile and metallic finish stay consistent.
