Casamance | Irisor

Irisor is the Johara velvet-effect plain with a second pass of metallic ink laid over it, gold on three of the colourways and a pearl on the fourth. The ink is not a flat sheen: it sits in the velvet texture and catches the light unevenly, so the wall shifts as you move past it. On vinyl with a non-woven backing, it gives a soft, low-level glow rather than a mirror finish.

Vinyl on a non-woven backing at 330 grams per square metre, 70 centimetres wide on a 10.05 metre roll, free match with no vertical repeat. Fire rated B-s2,d0 and ASTM E84 Class A, with an A+ COV rating, and made in Italy. Four colourways: Tourterelle/Nacré, Grège/Doré, Teal Blue/Doré and Noir/Doré; the first two are subtle enough to use through a whole room, while the Teal Blue and Noir versions are best kept to a single wall or a small, lamplit room.

We use Irisor in rooms that are mostly seen in the evening: a dining room, a powder room, the wall behind a bed with picture lights above it. It pairs with the plain Johara in the same base colour, so you can run the metallic version on one wall and the matt on the rest. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Hang it as a paste-the-wall non-woven and dry strip later. Free match, so drops need no alignment, but with a metallic overprint we hang the drops in roll order and the same way up, and check the sheen at the seam before pasting, since reversing a drop can change how the ink catches light. A 70 centimetre by 10.05 metre roll covers about 7 square metres; a typical 3.5 by 2.6 metre wall takes 5 drops, so allow 2 rolls.
