Casamance | Nusa

Nusa is an extra-wide linen and cotton voile from the Benang collection, woven on a polyester and linen warp with a thicker cotton yarn in the weft. That heavier thread stands out from the rest of the cloth and forms a fine, textured stripe with a little colour in it, so the sheer has a quiet rhythm rather than a flat, even surface. It has the dry hand and natural look of a linen scrim, with the polyester keeping it stable at the window.

The composition is 45 per cent polyester, 30 per cent linen, 13 per cent cotton and 12 per cent acrylic, woven in Turkey at 400 grams per square metre. It is 298 centimetres wide and made to be railroaded, with the width as the drop, and it is a free match. Three colourways: Blanc, a clean white where the stripe shows as texture more than colour; Acajou, which brings a red-brown into the weave; and Noir, the darkest and most graphic of the three. Blanc is the everyday choice; the other two are for rooms where the sheer is meant to be noticed.

We use Nusa as a full-width sheer on the wide windows of a living room or a bedroom, as a soft screen across a study alcove, and as a single panel in a hallway. It pairs with the Benang embroideries and with a wool or linen plain in a deeper tone, and it brings the collection's palette to a window without pattern. Order by the finished track length with 2 to 2.2 times fullness plus side hems; the 298 centimetre width gives a usable drop of around 283 centimetres. Once the cloth is railroaded the textured weft runs down the drop, so there is nothing to match across a pair. No lining, a light chain weight and a wave heading suit it best.
