Casamance | Odeon

Odeon is the design that names Casamance's Odéon collection: an Art Deco pattern of interlacing arches, laser-engraved into a suede-effect ground so that a metallic layer shows through where the pile has been cut away. The suede is a short polyester pile on a non-woven backing with a matt, velvety hand; the engraved arches sit fractionally below the surface and carry a gold or silver sheen. It reads as pattern from across a room and as texture close to.

It is 100 per cent polyester, 315 grams per square metre, at an 89 centimetre usable width. Made in China, it carries an A+ indoor air quality rating, a European fire rating of B s1 d0, Class A to ASTM E84 and a stated acoustic absorption of aw 0.15. There are 5 colourways: Anthracite Doré, Ambre Doré, Taupe Doré, Ivoire Argent and Kaki Doré. Four carry gold arches on a coloured suede; Ivoire Argent carries silver on ivory. Taupe Doré is the easiest to place; Anthracite Doré is the one for a bar or cinema room.

We would use Odeon on the wall behind a bed or a banquette, in a powder room, or above a dado in a dining room, with the plain Tannage in a matching colour elsewhere. It sits well with walnut, brass, a plain velvet on the seating and low lamplight. Sold by the metre; order a sample before committing to a full room.

A professional hanger is the right choice for an engraved suede. Odeon is paste-the-wall and dry-strippable, and the arches must be matched across joins, so ask us for the repeat. Divide the wall width by 0.89 for the number of drops, round up, and multiply by the wall height plus 10 centimetres plus the repeat: a 4 metre wall at 2.4 metres high takes 5 drops, roughly 13 metres before matching allowance.
