Opio is a painted stripe: each band has the slightly uneven edge and the variation in density of a brush loaded by hand, and it is printed over a raffia-effect ground with a visible weave. On vinyl with a non-woven backing, the result is a stripe that is relaxed rather than tailored, and the coarse texture underneath keeps it from looking like a print. The bands are broad and evenly spaced.
Vinyl on a non-woven backing at 440 grams per square metre, 70 centimetres wide on a 10.05 metre roll, free match with no vertical repeat. Fire rated B-s2,d0 and ASTM E84 Class A, with an A+ COV rating, and made in Italy. Three colourways: Sable, Paille and Anthracite; Sable and Paille are the warm, sun-bleached versions we would use in a bedroom, and Anthracite is the one for a cloakroom or a study where a darker stripe can do some work.
We would hang Opio in a guest bedroom or a corridor in a coastal house, or on the wall behind a bed with a woven headboard and a plain linen curtain. It coordinates with Andati, the other raffia-ground stripe in the collection, and with Shinok as a plain. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hang it as a paste-the-wall non-woven and it dry strips later. Being a free match there is little waste, but cut the drops in sequence and keep the stripe spacing consistent at each seam; a stripe will show a drifting join more than a pattern does, so plumb the first drop carefully. A 70 centimetre by 10.05 metre roll covers about 7 square metres; a typical 3.5 by 2.6 metre wall takes 5 drops, so allow 2 rolls.
