Casamance | Pitigliano

Pitigliano imitates the rough lime plaster of a Tuscan hill town: a trowelled surface, printed on vinyl with a non-woven backing, with the sweeps of the trowel picked out in a tone-on-tone shadow so the relief reads without any real texture on the wall. The scale is generous and the marks are irregular, which is what makes it convincing. It is a matt, mineral finish rather than a pattern.

Vinyl on a non-woven backing at 400 grams per square metre, 70 centimetres wide on a 10.05 metre roll, a half-drop (offset) match with a 53 centimetre vertical repeat. Fire rated B-s2,d0 and ASTM E84 Class A, with an A+ COV rating, and made in Italy. Five colourways: Givre, Argent, Grège, Terracotta and Anthracite; Givre and Grège give a pale plaster wall, Argent a cooler grey, and Terracotta and Anthracite are the ones for a single wall or a cloakroom.

We use Pitigliano where a real polished plaster would be too costly or too permanent: a hallway, a dining room, the walls of a bathroom outside the wet area. It works with stone floors and pale oak, and it hides the small flaws of an old wall better than paint does. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Hang it as a paste-the-wall non-woven; it dry strips later. The half-drop match means every other drop steps down by half the 53 centimetre repeat, so number the drops as you cut and allow an extra repeat per pair. A 70 centimetre by 10.05 metre roll covers about 7 square metres before matching; a typical 3.5 by 2.6 metre wall takes 5 drops, which is 2 rolls once the offset is allowed for.
