Casamance | Racines

Racines is the pattern that gives this collection its name: a motif drawn from Berber and Mediterranean craft, laid across a ground that imitates a heathered, slubbed silk. It is printed on vinyl with a non-woven backing, and the ground does much of the work, so the motif sits in the surface rather than on top of it. At a distance it reads as a textured wall with a rhythm to it; close to, the drawing shows.

The material is vinyl on a non-woven backing at 400 grams per square metre, in a wide 100 centimetre width and a 10.05 metre roll. It is a straight match with a 70 centimetre vertical repeat. Fire rated B-s2,d0 and ASTM E84 Class A, with an A+ COV rating, and made in Italy. Four colourways: Terracotta/Ocre, Lin/Givre, Sable/Amande and Pétrole/Cognac; Lin/Givre and Sable/Amande are the quiet options for a bedroom, while Terracotta/Ocre and Pétrole/Cognac can carry a dining room or a study on their own.

We would give Racines a single wall, the bedhead wall or the wall you face from the sofa, and run the coordinating Sora plain in the matching tone on the other three, so the motif has room to breathe. It also suits a hallway with a long run of wall and little furniture against it. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

It hangs as a paste-the-wall non-woven and dry strips later. The straight match means each drop lines up with its neighbour at the same height, so cut every drop to a whole number of 70 centimetre repeats and expect a little more waste than a free match. A 100 centimetre roll covers about 10 square metres; a 3.5 by 2.6 metre wall takes 4 drops of 2.8 metres each, which is 2 rolls with some to spare.
