Scaletta is a fine stripe drawn as a twisted rope, set on a ground that imitates a chevron weave. The rope line is narrow and the chevron ground is small in scale, so from across a room the paper reads as a textured pinstripe rather than a pattern. On vinyl with a non-woven backing, both the rope and the weave catch a little side light, which is where its interest lies.
Vinyl on a non-woven backing at 330 grams per square metre, 70 centimetres wide on a 10.05 metre roll, free match with no vertical repeat. Fire rated B-s2,d0 and ASTM E84 Class A, with an A+ COV rating, and made in Italy. Five colourways: Paille, Latte, Grège, Noisette and Bleu Ciel; the three neutrals are whole-room colours, Noisette is warmer and suits a study, and Bleu Ciel is the one we use in a child's room or a coastal bedroom.
We hang Scaletta in a bedroom, a boot room or a corridor, and we pair it with Escalet, the plain that carries the same chevron weave without the rope, so one wall can have the stripe and the rest the plain. It also works with a striped ticking on a headboard. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hang it as a paste-the-wall non-woven and dry strip later. Free match, so drops are cut to the wall height plus trim and waste is minimal; plumb the first drop carefully and keep the drops in roll order so the stripe spacing stays even at the seams. A 70 centimetre by 10.05 metre roll covers about 7 square metres; a typical 3.5 by 2.6 metre wall takes 5 drops, so allow 2 rolls.
