Casamance | Shinok Wallpaper (Colours 1–45)

Shinok is Casamance's linen-look plain, and the paper most of the Rayures stripes are designed to sit beside. It imitates a loosely woven linen with the slubs and knots left in, printed on vinyl with a non-woven backing, so the wall has the irregularity of cloth without the cost or the seams of a real textile. It is neither shiny nor flat, and it takes side light well.

Vinyl on a non-woven backing at 330 grams per square metre, 70 centimetres wide on a 10.05 metre roll, free match with a 64 centimetre repeat in the texture. Fire rated B-s2,d0 and ASTM E84 Class A, with an A+ COV rating, and made in Italy. The range runs to 89 colourways, from Blanc Pétale, Craie and Lin through greys, greens and blues such as Gris Perle, Sauge, Bleu Gris and Pétrole to deep tones like Carbone, Bleu Nuit and Grenat; the mid-tone neutrals are the ones we use most, and the strong colours suit a small room you want to feel enclosed.

We specify Shinok as the base paper for whole rooms: bedrooms, halls, landings, a sitting room where the curtains and upholstery carry the pattern. It is the natural partner to the Beausoleil stripe, which is printed on the same ground. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Hang it as a paste-the-wall non-woven, and it will dry strip later. As a free match there is almost no waste, but with a plain of this kind we cut drops in sequence from the roll and check the run before pasting, because any variation shows more on a plain than on a pattern. A 70 centimetre by 10.05 metre roll covers about 7 square metres; a typical 3.5 by 2.6 metre wall takes 5 drops, so allow 2 rolls.
