Casamance | Turenne

Turenne is a satin jacquard with a polyamide warp, which is what gives it its smooth face and its resistance to wear. The pattern is drawn from the regular façades of the rue de Turenne in the Marais: an ordered, architectural geometry rather than a florid one, and the weft is woven from several differently coloured yarns so the design shifts in tone as the light moves across it. It has sheen without being shiny, and enough weight to sit well on a chair.

The composition is 42 per cent viscose, 30 per cent polyamide, 23 per cent polyester, 3 per cent cotton and 2 per cent linen, made in India at 134 centimetres wide and 440 grams per square metre. The repeat is 55 centimetres vertically and 67 centimetres horizontally with a straight match. There are 4 colourways: Céladon Mordoré, Marine Acajou, Nacre Acajou and Nacre Gris. Each pairs a ground with a contrasting figure; the two Nacre colourways are the softest and Marine Acajou the richest.

We use Turenne on upholstery and curtains alike. It makes a good dining chair, a headboard or a fully upholstered bedroom chair, and it makes curtains with real body in a sitting room or dining room. It pairs with the Bord de Seine jacquard from the same Paris Lumière collection in the matching Nacre or Mordoré colourway, and with Pastourelle voile as the inner layer. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

For making up, allow one repeat of 55 centimetres per drop for matching and ask the maker to plan the pattern so the same motif sits at the heading on every curtain. The satin face shows pressure marks, so ask for a soft interlining rather than a stiff one and avoid over-pressing the seams. For upholstery, keep the pattern centred on backs and seats, and use a lining cloth under the satin on any tight curve.
