Casamance | Volterra

Volterra is a plaster effect at a smaller scale than the rest of the Striato collection: finer trowel marks, closer together, so the surface reads as a softly patinated wall rather than a rough one. It is printed on vinyl with a non-woven backing, with the relief suggested by a tone-on-tone shadow. The result is the most even of the plaster papers and the easiest to use through a whole room.

Vinyl on a non-woven backing at 400 grams per square metre, 70 centimetres wide on a 10.05 metre roll, a half-drop (offset) match with a 53 centimetre vertical repeat. Fire rated B-s2,d0 and ASTM E84 Class A, with an A+ COV rating, and made in Italy. Eight colourways: Givre, Argent, Travertin, Grège, Amande, Blush, Fauve and Topaze; the first four are the plaster neutrals, Amande and Blush are gentle tints for a bedroom, and Fauve and Topaze carry more colour for a single wall.

We use Volterra on all four walls of a bedroom, a sitting room or a hallway, and in a bathroom away from the shower. It suits stone, pale oak and linen, and it takes pictures well because the surface is calm and there is no motif to fight them. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Hang it as a paste-the-wall non-woven and dry strip later. The half-drop match means alternate drops step down by half the 53 centimetre repeat, so number the drops as you cut and allow an extra repeat per pair. A 70 centimetre by 10.05 metre roll covers about 7 square metres before matching; a typical 3.5 by 2.6 metre wall takes 5 drops, which is 2 rolls once the offset is allowed for.
