Fifty-Seven by Christopher Guy brings 57 hand polished mirrors together in a composition with a cubist character. Each mirror has its own wooden surround, with metal connectors joining the elements. We would treat it as a wall piece with a reflective quality, considering the changing fragments of the room within it as part of the design. The repetition gives the arrangement rhythm, while the individual frames prevent the reflected view from becoming an uninterrupted surface.
Three sizes are supplied: 120 by 120 cm, 140 by 140 cm and 180 by 180 cm, each 4 cm deep. The available finishes are Renaissance Gold Leaf and Italian Silver. We would choose the overall scale against the width of the furniture below, allowing the composition enough space at either side. Custom sizes and finishes are available on request where a particular wall calls for a different proportion or a more specific relationship.
We would consider Fifty-Seven above a substantial sideboard in a dining room, paired with simple vessels rather than a dense display. In a sitting room, it could work with a broad sofa and plain upholstery. We would also use it on an entrance wall where the fragmented reflection can be appreciated on arrival. Strongly patterned wallpaper would need careful consideration; we would usually begin with a quieter backdrop and let the assembled mirrors provide the movement.
