Christopher Guy | Laurus

Laurus by Christopher Guy brings a curved arch together with hand carved rocaille detailing. The outline has a French decorative character, with the carving giving movement to the frame. We would use it where a room needs one carefully placed ornamental piece: a point of interest that can sit comfortably beside simpler furniture. The arch encourages the eye upwards, so we would think about the wall above as carefully as the console or mantel below.

The mirror is supplied in 14th Century Gold Leaf, with 3 sizes available: 63 by 122 cm, 74 by 143 cm and 85 by 163 cm, given as width by height. We would compare those dimensions with the surrounding architectural features before selecting a size. A relatively small change in width can alter the balance of a narrow wall. Custom sizes and finishes are available on request for a more particular setting.

We would pair Laurus with a straight-fronted chest, a stone-topped console or a mantel with restrained mouldings. In a bedroom, linen curtains and a softly upholstered chair with a plain rug would provide a quieter counterpoint to the carved frame. In a sitting room, we would keep neighbouring pictures sufficiently apart for each piece to register. The Gold Leaf finish could be echoed in a small lamp detail, although we would avoid repeating it on every nearby object.
