Talan by Christopher Guy builds a circular frame from hand carved wooden tiles, with irregular gaps between the curved elements. We would use it where a room needs a little movement within a clear overall shape. The circle provides the structure; the spaces and changes in the carving give the frame its organic character. Against a plain wall, those details can register without the rest of the room needing to become more decorative.

The supplied size is 100 cm wide by 5 cm deep by 100 cm high, in Oro Nero. Custom sizes and finishes are available on request. We would consider the diameter against the furniture below, allowing sufficient clear wall around the outer edge. The carved tiles are central to the design, so the choice of backdrop matters. We would look at the frame and wall colour together before settling the surrounding palette.

Above a hallway console, we would keep the surface arrangement low and simple, perhaps with a shallow bowl and one lamp. In a sitting room, Talan could sit over a cabinet with straight lines, giving the wall a softer centre. We would also consider it in a bedroom alongside plain linen curtains and a textured upholstered chair. A nearby piece of pottery could echo the irregularity of the frame without repeating its circular form too literally.

We would make a full-size paper outline before confirming the position, then check the reflection from the doorway and the usual seating area. Door swings, lamp heights and nearby shelving should all be considered at this stage. We would ask the installer to assess the wall construction and suitable fixing method. Request the relevant care guidance for the carved finish before cleaning. Estimated delivery is 18–20 weeks, and any custom dimensions should be agreed before the order is placed.
