The acanthus has been carved, woven and printed for two thousand years, and it survives because its leaf divides so well: deeply lobed, curling back on itself, generous enough to fill a space and structured enough to hold a line. This archive design belongs to the Arts and Crafts reading of the plant, where it is flattened into filigree and drawn almost entirely in outline.

What keeps it from feeling like a period reproduction is that linework. There is no shading and very little modelling; the leaves are described by contour alone, layered over one another so depth comes from overlap. Seen from across a room the effect is closer to fine ironwork than to foliage, and it sits comfortably in a contemporary interior in a way a more painterly version of the same plant would not.

It is printed on a non-woven ground, which hangs cleanly and comes away in one piece when the time comes. A 61 cm repeat on a 0.52 m roll suits ordinary domestic drop heights. Use it where a room already has good bones, panelled walls, a decent chimneypiece, tall sash windows, and it will read as architecture rather than as decoration. Against painted joinery and plain cloth it holds a room without dominating it.
