Afrika Kingdom is composed in tiers, like an altarpiece or a heraldic panel, and it borrows that formality deliberately. A giant eagle owl presides at the top with its wings spread; below it, palms fan out their leaves; below them again, animals stand in mirrored pairs, giraffe, zebra, painted dog, roan antelope, each pair facing its twin across a central axis. The symmetry is what keeps a very full design orderly.
The drawing comes from the Ardmore studio's ceramic tradition, in which no surface goes unpatterned: a hide is decorated as a pot would be decorated, and a horn is drawn as ornament rather than as anatomy. That approach turns what could have been a wildlife scene into something closer to a tapestry, with pattern carried right through the animals themselves.
The repeat is a full 91.4 cm, so the tiers read as complete registers up a wall, and the 0.69 m roll gives them the width they need. It is a paper for a whole room rather than a single wall, for a dining room, a hall or a stair where the composition can be met on all four sides. Order generously; a repeat this long is unforgiving on short drops.
