Aurora is a forest floor seen close up: thickets, undergrowth, flowers pressing through the gaps, all of it dense enough that the ground barely shows. The design was painted entirely by hand from archival documents, and the printing keeps the marks of that process, the hatching, the stippling, the small irregularities of a plate, so the finished paper carries the look of an engraving that has been coloured rather than of a flat modern print.
That texture is what gives the pattern its depth. Because detail is carried in line rather than in tone, the design reads as thicket at a distance and resolves into individual stems and blooms as you come closer, which is a long way from the flatness of most large florals. Nothing dominates; the composition is deliberately even, with no single flower asked to carry the wall.
It works best in a room with enclosure and low light, where density becomes atmospheric rather than busy: a dining room, a library, a bedroom with heavy curtains. The half drop at 64 cm keeps the joins invisible and stops any vertical seam forming, and on a 0.52 m roll it hangs conventionally in most domestic rooms. Painted furniture and plain matting suit it better than anything polished.
