The king cheetah is a rarity, a coat mutation that replaces the usual spots with three heavy stripes running the length of the back, found in a handful of animals in southern Africa and for a long time believed to be a separate species. Cheetah Prowl takes those markings as its subject, which is a shrewd choice: the stripes give the animal a graphic spine that reads clearly at wall scale.
The cats move through grasses drawn as fine feathered strokes, and the contrast between the two is what makes the design work. The grass is loose, vertical and almost textural; the animals are solid and horizontal, moving across that texture in a slow procession. The eye follows them along the wall rather than up it, which is unusual and rather calming in a design with this much life in it.
It hangs on a straight match with a 76 cm repeat, on a roll 0.7 m wide and 8 m long, shorter than the usual 10 m, so quantities need checking against drop heights. Use it across a whole room rather than on one wall: a dining room, a study, a hall, a bedroom where the procession can continue around the corners without interruption.
