Ingot begins underground. Its motif is the cube as it occurs in metallic ore, and pyrite in particular, the mineral that crystallises in near-perfect blocks and has been mistaken for gold for as long as men have dug for it. The drawing keeps that geological logic: the cubes tumble rather than sit, stacking and slipping past one another as though a seam had been broken open and the pieces left where they fell.
The result is a geometric that behaves like a texture. At close range the individual blocks are legible, each facet catching light differently from its neighbour; from the other side of a room the pattern dissolves into a fine metallic grain across an earthy ground. The 23 cm straight repeat is short, so the rhythm is quick and even, and the joins disappear into the general movement rather than announcing themselves down the wall.
Rooms with little natural light take it particularly well, since the metallic surface does some of the work a window would otherwise do, gathering what light there is and giving it back slowly. It sits comfortably in a hall or a cloakroom, on the wall behind a bar, or in a study where a plain would feel flat. The 0.53 m roll is standard, which keeps the hanging straightforward around chimney breasts and reveals.
