Where Jaspe is a continuous striation, Jaspe Stripe gathers the same brushed line into broad bands. The technique behind it is the older thing: at the Cole & Son works in North London a brush was drawn through wet colour, and the track it left was never mechanically even. Widening that mark into a stripe changes what it does. The wall gains structure, and the eye is given somewhere to rest between the bands.
The irregularity survives the enlargement. Within each band the colour still wavers and thins, so the stripe has grain rather than flatness, and it reads much closer to a dragged or combed paint finish than to a printed line. The balance is deliberate: regular enough to give a room proportion, loose enough that it never becomes a graphic.
It hangs random match, which is worth knowing at the planning stage. There is no pattern to align, so drops can be cut wherever is most economical, offcuts go further, and a wall that is out of true will not show it at the seams. That makes it a practical choice for older houses, for stairwells with awkward returns, and for rooms where the wall itself is not quite square.
