Oblique is built from angled lines that never quite run parallel, and the name is very nearly the whole description. The structure is a lattice of fine diagonals laid over a two-tone ground, with the diagonals themselves printed in a soft metallic so that they catch light while the ground stays matte. The contrast is between two surfaces rather than two colours.
This makes it a pattern that changes through the day. Seen straight on and in flat light it reads as a quiet geometric with very little presence; seen at an angle, or across a room lit from one side, the metallic ribbons lift and the whole wall takes on a faint sheen. The scale is small and even, which keeps the effect textural rather than graphic, closer to a woven silk than to a printed geometry.
It is useful precisely because it is understated. A dining room used at night, a dressing room, a small hall, the walls of a stair: anywhere a plain colour would be too little and a figured pattern too much. It sits comfortably beside good joinery, lacquer and polished brass, and it makes a forgiving backdrop for pictures, which most geometrics do not.
