Seville's courtyards are planted with orange trees, and Orange Blossom takes that as its starting point without ever becoming a botanical study. Fruit and foliage are drawn with a deliberate coarseness of texture, the leaves stippled and faintly woven-looking, so the paper reads less like a print of a tree than like a length of cloth on which a tree has been worked.
The reference is specific. It looks to the tapestries hung in the Salon de los Tapices at the Real Alcazar, where the density of the weave flattens everything into a single decorative plane. The 91.4 cm repeat is long, which keeps the branches from resolving into an obvious grid, and the straight match holds the horizontals across the joins so that the tapestry illusion survives being hung.
The palettes are muted and slightly aged rather than fresh, which makes this easier to live with than most fruit designs. A dining room, a small drawing room or a kitchen with proper joinery suits it, anywhere the pattern can meet a corner and be believed. At 0.52 m wide on a 10 m roll, the long repeat is worth allowing for when quantities are set. The design belongs to the Seville collection, and reads best where the daylight is warm.
