Palm Jungle is the original of its kind, and almost every dense palm print since has been measured against it. The drawing layers frond over frond until there is no ground left to see, and the depth comes entirely from that overlapping: leaves in front, leaves behind, and the darker spaces between them doing the work of shadow.
What keeps it from becoming oppressive is the drawing itself, which is loose and hand-made rather than photographic. The leaves are irregular, none of them repeats exactly within a drop, and the eye never settles on a unit it can count. Across a full wall the effect is genuinely enveloping, which is why it has been used as often in hotels and restaurants as in houses.
Its colourways are unusually broad for one design, running from soft neutral pairings that read almost as texture through to saturated combinations on dark grounds. That range decides everything: the same drawing can act as a quiet backdrop or take a room over completely. Coordinating fabrics exist in linen union and velvet, and a cushion, for schemes that want the pattern in more than one place. Palm Jungle sits in both the Icons and the Contemporary Selection ranges, and has never really left the catalogue.
