Quartz takes the internal structure of a crystal, the way a mineral fractures along its planes into facets of different sizes, and makes a wall pattern of it. The shards are irregular and interlocking, some clear and some clouded, and each catches light differently, so the surface never resolves into a flat plane.
Every colourway is printed with metallic inks, which is what makes the geometry legible: facets are distinguished by how much light they return rather than by colour alone, and the design consequently changes completely between daylight and lamplight. Flat on, in the morning, it is subdued and almost textural. At an angle, or after dark, the planes separate and the wall acquires a depth it does not really have.
It hangs with a half-drop match on a 0.53 m roll, which staggers the facets across the joins so no seam is legible as a line of repeated shapes, and the 64 cm repeat is long enough to keep the geometry irregular. Rooms used in the evening make the most of it, a dining room, a cloakroom, a bar, a dressing room, and it needs very little around it. Plain surfaces and good lighting are the whole requirement.
