Reverie is a panorama rather than a repeating paper: a single continuous scene of fantastical trees, trailing branches, deep grasses and blossom, drawn across eight drops and supplied as a two-roll set. At 5.6 metres wide and 4 metres high it is designed to occupy a wall completely, and the composition assumes it will. Nothing repeats within it. Every part of the drawing is different, which is what distinguishes a panorama from a very large pattern.
The scene is built to be read like a landscape, with a foreground of grasses, a middle distance of flowering branches and open sky above, so the wall gains depth rather than pattern. Each palette takes a different hour of the day, from the clarity of dawn through full afternoon light to a hazy graduated dusk and a deep midnight, and the same drawing changes considerably between them.
It can be repeated to hang a whole room, or used as a single panel where one wall is to carry the scheme. Because the composition is fixed, the wall should be measured and the drops planned before ordering, allowing for how doors, skirtings and cornices will crop the scene. It rewards a long view: a dining room, a wide landing, a bedroom seen from the bed.
