Savuti takes its name from one of the best-known reaches of the Chobe, and the paper behaves like the place: hoopoes and hornbills in the branches, baboons and chameleons in the flowering coral trees, a great deal happening at once but nothing crowding. The Ardmore artists draw animals as characters, and that is what separates this from conventional wildlife pattern. The Ardmore studio in KwaZulu-Natal has been working this way for four decades, and the confidence shows in the drawing.

The layout is generous and reads as a garden rather than a scene, with the trees providing vertical structure and the birds distributed across it. It is worth noting how differently the colourways behave. Some are pared back and almost engraved in feeling, others faded and antique, and several are frankly bright. The same drawing supports all of them, which says something about how well it is built.

A 76.2 cm repeat on a half-drop match staggers each drop so the trees never align across the wall, and the 0.52 m roll makes it manageable around openings. Given its density it does better in a room that can be filled than in isolated panels: a small sitting room, a hall, a child's room that is not being condescended to. It also takes a strong painted colour on the woodwork, which most busy papers will not.
