Woods & Pears takes the iconic birch design and hangs fruit in it, pears suspended among the trunks in shimmering metallic where the original had nothing but bark and branch. It is a small intervention with a large effect: the addition of a single unexpected element turns a graphic tree pattern into something closer to a fairy tale.
The metallic is doing the work. Printed against a matte ground, the pears catch light and release it as you move past, so they come forward and recede depending on where you stand and how the room is lit. In daylight they are subtle; under lamps they are the first thing you see. The trunks stay flat, which is what keeps the contrast working.
It hangs with a half drop on a 0.53 m roll with a 70 cm repeat, so alternate lengths are offset and the trees fall at genuinely irregular intervals across a wall rather than in ranks. The vertical emphasis lifts a low ceiling, and the design takes furniture well, since a bed, a bookcase or a sofa set against it reads as part of the wood. It belongs in a bedroom, a dining room or a hall with reasonable height, and it wants warm lamplight rather than downlights, which flatten the metallic entirely.
